Bewdley Museum - Bewdley's historial past was considered important enough to be preserved and so, in 1969, a Museum Trust was formed. The Museum itself was opened in 1972 in the old butchers' Shambles, located underneath the Town Hall. The aim of the Museum remains the same today - to collect and interpret evidence of Bewdley's fascinating past.
The Museum's emphasis is on former crafts of Bewdley such as charcoal burning, basket making, horn working, bark peeling, tanning, saddlery and brassware. The annual coracle making workshop is an example of how the Museum has helped to rediscover a once familiar local skill. Another important aspect of the Museum's work is the collection of oral recordings of people who work in local industries. These provide a valuable insight into life in the region during the twentieth century.
Severn Valley Railway - is one of the town's major attractions with its GWR station on the Wribbenhall side of the river. Running from Bewdley to Bridgenorth the railway is one of the largest steam railways in the country with 16 miles of track. It is a full-size standard-gauge line running regular steam-hauled passenger trains for the benefit of tourists and enthusiasts alike between Kidderminster in Worcestershire and Bridgnorth in Shropshire, a distance of 16 miles.
The journey is full of interest, for the route follows closely the meandering course of the River Severn for most of the way; one highlight of the trip is the crossing of the river by means of the Victoria Bridge - a massive 200-foot single span, high above the water.
West Midlands Safari Park - is one of the country's leading parks with over 40 rare and exotic species. offering you the chance to visit the animals in their habitats as you drive through your own Safari. With Rhino, Elephants, Lions, Giraffes and many more to see, it makes a great day out.
