Senior Captains Report for November

At last the final Seniors Merit competition has been played! You will recall from previous newsletters that this competition has had to be postponed twice due to the bad weather. Well, on an unusually dry but cold day in earlier this month the Summers Order of Merit was concluded. Well done to Shaun Parker who won the Stableford Competition on the day itself.  Congratulations to John Collins who over the 16 order of merit qualifying competitions is this year’s most successful and consistent performer.

Our last Trophy competition of the season was played in late October, The Woody Bowl, which was a bogey and won by Tony Marchant, well played Tony.

Whilst the first round of this year’s Seniors Winter League has been played at Bransford, the second round at Little Lakes became a casualty of the weather and had to be postponed. Further rounds at The Staffordshire and Wharton Park will be held in the New Year. At the moment we are in 3rd place (out of 4 Clubs).

In addition to the League the four clubs (Wharton Park, Bransford, The Staffordshire, and Little Lakes) also participate in a Cup Final. Due again to bad weather last year’s final, which was supposed to be played in March, was postponed and subsequently played at Bransford in late October. We were the holders of the cup and I am very pleased to say that we retained the trophy! Well played to the 12 Seniors who represented Wharton Park on the day. Now let’s see if we can retain the League trophy as well!!

Once again Wharton Park has entered a team in the Kidderminster Cup. You may recall we made it through to the final last year, losing out to Moseley. This year we start with a home tie against Droitwich B. Good luck to Adrian Barrie, (who is this year’s Captain) and the team.

At the end of October there was Seniors and Ladies Halloween Texas scramble competition. Everyone who took part had great fun. Please see Lady Captain, Paula Barrie’s report to read more about the day itself.

What do we look forward to as the days draw shorter, colder, but surly not any wetter…

The Seniors Christmas Wines & Spirits, Winter League matches, as well as the regular winter roll ups on Tuesday and Fridays.

So please, whatever standard, if you are 55 years of age or over you are more than welcome to join in. Please look at the Seniors notice board located just inside the Men’s locker room for details.

Here’s hoping for a much drier few weeks as we lead up to Christmas!
